Reflection on Media Consumption
After viewing my media intake this year, I am not pleased by the amount of time I am spending on social media, especially on the weekends. My reasoning is how it can damage my mental health and how it could change my perspective on things. I am planning to use that time where I go on my phone and scroll endlessly, I am going to use a different type of media, books. This way I am still retaining media, but I am reading and remembering instead of watching and forgetting.
Though I do have an issue with my overuse of social media I have no problem with my time listening to music and podcasts. I know music and podcasts are a type of media, but it is not a type of media where I must stare at a screen and waste any of my time. With music and podcasts, I can do multiple things while using it. For my usage of Schoology or other websites I use at school I really cannot help how much I use it due to the class requirements or having assignments on the sites. Adding to that I do not really see any issues with how much media I use for school because I am doing work and learning things, so it is more positive than negative. I do not like the idea that I am looking at a screen than a book. It is not in my control; it is in the teacher’s control. Overall, I want to change my online media habits since I am spending about 4 hours of media consumption every day. I would like to change that to an hour and a half to 2 hours a day so I can have a healthy amount each day.
